The NFL draft is coming up in a couple months and players like Jared Goff, Laquon Treadwell, Joey Bosa and Laremy Tunsil could be potential top five picks for teams. The Titans pick first overall this year ahead of the Browns, Chargers, Cowboys and Jaguars in the top five.
Tennessee is not likely going after a quarterback with the first overall pick, as the team selected Marcus Mariota last year at number two. According to Pro Football Talk, the Titans have had some initial talks with teams about trading the number one pick, but as things stand no deal is close for the pick. The team likely is just checking out which teams could be interested in trading up as the draft gets closer. The evaluation process will only pick up steam from here and players like Joey Bosa and Laremy Tunsil could be options for the top pick.
Mel Kiper at ESPN has the Titans taking Bosa with the number one pick in his first mock draft, while CBS Sports has the team going after Tunsil. The Titans have needs on both sides of the ball and they could go after the "best player available" with the top pick over targeting a specific need. Kiper writes that "getting the best defensive lineman in any draft really transcends need" and that Bosa has the "upside of a star."
The Browns pick at the number two spot and many around the league think that the team will go after a quarterback. The Browns reportedly are set to move on from Johnny Manziel this offseason and with Hue Jackson taking over as head coach, it would make sense to bring in a new franchise QB. The QB class for 2016 has some strong names at the top with Jared Goff, Paxton Lynch and Carson Wentz and one of those players could be the option for Cleveland.
Goff is considered to be the top prospect in the class and Kiper predicts that the Browns will take him at number two. The Chargers pick third overall and the team could consider the player that the Titans pass up at number one in Tunsil or Bosa. Kiper has the team taking Tunsil, as the Chargers had some injury issues on the offensive line last season.
The Cowboys pick at number four this year and while many expect the team to consider a quarterback, Kiper predicts that the team will go after DeForest Buckner. The Cowboys could use some depth on the defensive line with Greg Hardy likely out in free agency and Buckner could be an option. Laquon Treadwell also could be a target for the team after the way Dez Bryant dealt with injuries last season. Treadwell also could be a target for the 49ers if he gets out of the top five.
