Tottenham Transfer News: Besiktas Confirm Bid for Spurs Striker Emmanuel Adebayor

Besiktas confirmed they have made an offer for Tottenham forward Emmanuel Adebayor, with the Turkish club now awaiting permission to move the deal forward if possible.

Adebayor has been widely tipped to leave the club in the summer, with Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas keen to bolster his attacking lineup by bringing in a couple of fresh new strikers.

The likes of David Villa from Barcelona, Valencia striker Roberto Soldado and long-time target Leandro Damiao of Internacional have been linked with moves, leading to suggestions Adebayor could be offloaded.

Adebayor had an underwhelming time of it last season in the Premier League, scoring just five goals in 25 appearances, a marked contrast from the 2011-12 season, where he shone while on loan from Manchester City.

Besiktas director Ahmet Piper confirmed they are interested in the former Arsenal man. "It is certainly true that we are looking at the idea of a transfer," he told Fanatik. "We have made a serious bid for Adebayor.

"That, in turn, has given us a figure for the player, which is slightly above the amount that we imagined.

"However, making a signing as big as this immediately is nothing but a dream.

"Negotiations always take a long time. I hope that we will get a chance to have a meeting soon."

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Hugo Lloris said he is looking forward to Spurs' preseason tournament in Hong Kong.

Tottenham, Sunderland and Manchester City, along with local club South China FC are set to participate in the Barclays Asia Trophy at the end of the month and Lloris cannot wait to take in the sights and sounds of Hong Kong.

"It will be my first experience of Asia," the French international told the club's official website. "I'm very excited to discover Hong Kong.

"Maybe it's a little different from the European mentality and interesting to find out about it.

"In Asia, they love football and the Premier League, so it's a good opportunity for us.

"Also, to play against Manchester City and Sunderland is good. We will all be in the same physical condition and this is an opportunity to play good games.

"Also, it's a trophy, so when you play a competition, you want to win."
