Sandro has welcomed Paulinho to Tottenham, and the midfielder believes his fellow compatriot will make Spurs even bigger contenders for a Champions League place next season.

Paulinho is set to complete his £17 million ($26 million) transfer from Corinthians to Tottenham in a few days, with the 24-year-old confirming he is set for a move to White Hart Lane.

The Brazilian international, so impressive at the Confederations Cup, will be seen as a marquee signing for Spurs and will look to string a good partnership in midfield alongside Sandro, who has promised to make his switch to England as smooth as possible.

"I can only say 'welcome to Tottenham, Paulinho,'" he told Globo Esporte.

"I am very happy, I will try to do the same thing (Hurelho) Gomes did when I arrived. He was very important when I came and helped me adapt.

"If Paulinho needs me, I will help. I welcome him."

Tottenham have narrowly missed out on qualifying for the Champions League over the last couple of campaigns, but Sandro is hopeful Paulinho's signing can help his side push for a top-four place come next season.

"I think he has what it takes to do well here," Sandro added.

"This is a club with a great structure. It has been fighting for the top positions in the last few years and playing in European competitions.

"Paulinho will certainly help us become even stronger."

Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas and new technical director Franco Baldini are looking at several other signings, with David Villa of Barcelona and Roberto Soldado of Valencia also thought to be in their sights.

Villa has reportedly given his nod for a move to White Hart Lane, but Tottenham want Barca to reduce their £12 million ($18 million) valuation of the 31-year-old.

Spurs have reportedly tabled a £20 million ($30 million) bid for Soldado, but Valencia are reluctant to sell their prime striker this summer.

Tottenham are also in talks with Dinamo Zagreb over twin moves for Alen Halilovic and Tin Jedvaj.

Meanwhile, Spurs confirmed loan moves for youngsters Massimo Luongo and Grant Hall with the duo agreeing to join League One side Swindon on loan for next season.
