Matt Forte #22 of the Chicago Bears puts a move on Rolando McClain #55 of the Dallas Cowboys during the fourth quarter of a game at Soldier Field on December 4, 2014 in Chicago, Illinois. The Cowboys defeated the Bears 41-28. "

The Dallas Cowboys may look at a trade for a running back this offseason despite not pulling the trigger on an Adrian Peterson trade before the draft, as Jerry Jones has left the door open on a potential deal, saying that a first round pick could be moved in the right situation and fi that happens, players like Matt Forte, Doug Martin and Peterson could be targets to add depth for Darren McFadden and Joseph Randle.

The Cowboys are coming into offseason workouts with Darren McFadden as the top back on the depth chart and that comes after the team let DeMarco Murray go in free agency. The Cowboys felt comfortable letting Murray go with the way the offensive line has performed in the past two years, as they were wary of giving him a huge contract at his age. McFadden now comes in as the starter, but that doesn't mean Jerry Jones won't look to add more talent to the roster.

According to Fox Sports, Jones was asked about the running back situation and he said that the team was comfortable with the roster, but left the door open about making a trade. Jones said that the team might be willing to give up a first round pick in 2016 for a running back, with Jones saying that they could consider it if the "right situation came along". Jones added that the team "might be willing to part" with their 2016 first round pick, but right now no deals are in the works.

The team was mentioned heavily in the Adrian Peterson trade speculation and while that could be who Jones is talking about, there are other potential options. Fox Sports points out that the Cowboys may be more willing than usual to give up one of those picks, as they may have just gotten three "first round talent" players this offseason from the draft. Byron Jones was a first round pick and Randy Gregory was taken in the second round after off the field issues, but he was considered a projected top 10 pick. The team also added La'el Collins as an undrafted free agent and he also was a projected first round pick.

All that doesn't mean that the Cowboys will look at making a deal, but it sure makes it interesting. The team could consider looking at Matt Forte or Doug Martin, as those are two players that could come up in trade talks. Forte is coming into the final year of his deal and he reportedly wants a new contract extension. The Bears just drafted Jeremy Langford and could consider making the move.

The Buccaneers shopped Martin close to the trade deadline last season and he also could be a potential target. Martin was a first round draft pick in 2012, but after two disappointing seasons since a stellar rookie year, he could be moved by the Bucs and for potentially less than a first round pick, which could make it even more appealing for the Cowboys. The Cowboys signed McFadden as a free agent and the team also has Joseph Randle, Lance Dunbar and Ryan Williams on the roster.
