The New York Yankees and Cincinnati Reds are playing an interleague game live on Sunday afternoon from the Bronx in Yankee Stadium at 1:05 pm ET as Johnny Cueto matches up against Hiroki Kuroda and the Yanks can go for the much needed sweep as the second half continues and they need to keep things going for any chance at the playoffs as this matchup could help them get near .500 at home.
The Reds are in danger of losing their sixth straight game on the road and the Yankees want to try and keep pace in the AL East. The division standings are still there for the taking and that likely the the best way into the playoffs with the way the wild card is shaping up with the Angels and Mariners. The Yankees have been mostly terrible on offense this season, but they are heating up at the right time and if Carlos Beltran and Brian McCann can contribute just a little bit, the team will be in much better position moving forward.
CC Sabathia is out for the season and Masahiro Tanaka is out for another month on the least side of things and he could be out longer and that means Kuroda and David Phelps and the other names have to keep the team afloat. Beltran has good numbers against Cueto and he needs to start playing better for the team and he has been mostly a disappointment so far in his time with the Yankees. Cueto has been very strong this season and he is one of the leaders in the NL and that makes this matchup even more challenging.
The New York Yankees and Cincinnati Reds both need this win as they push for the playoffs and the Yanks come in after Brandon McCarthy got his first win in a Yankee uniform, beating All Star Alfredo Simon and now they need another. The team is playing against the terrible Texas Rangers next and they need to take care of business in that series to be serious this season.
