Washington Redskins backup quarterback Kirk Cousins spikes the ball after scoring on a two-point conversion that tied the game against the Baltimore Ravens late in the fourth quarter during their NFL football game in Landover, Maryland December 9, 2012. Cousins came in to the game after Washington starting quarterback Robert Griffin III was injured. "

The Washington Redskins are coming into the season with some excitement after RG3 was injured last year and it looks like a Kirk Cousins trade will not be going down, as the Cleveland Browns and the Houston Texans look content with their QB situations and heading into camp, Robert Griffin III looks motivated and healthy and in the future, he could be next in line with Russell Wilson and Andrew Luck at getting massive contracts like Colin Kaepernick just received.

Griffin is coming into the season looking to bounce back after being injured and the team playing terribly and he has the chance to do it, as DeSean Jackson signed in the offseason and Gruden is a great offensive coach with a new scheme. Griffin will be in line for some big money coming up as well, with Colin Kaepernick signing a $126 million contract and that means players like Griffin, Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson all are getting close to cashing in.

The Redskins had a chance to trade Kirk Cousins this offseason, as the Cleveland Browns offered them a fourth round pick for him during the draft, but the team turned it down. Gruden could be worried about Griffin getting injured again, but it more likely is that Cousins is a solid QB after coming in the past two years when Griffin was injured and Washington feels it can do better than that pick in the future.

If someone gets injured this season or during the summer that could change, but right now Gruden is happy with Cousins working as the backup to Griffin. Cousins is not competition for Griffin and he knows it and after being with the team and behind RG3 he can handle the media scrutiny and the pressure of coming into games. The Redskins were 16th in passing yards per game last season and that should improve with Griffin healthy and Jackson coming in.

The Redskins had a very tough season in 2013 and the team went just 3-13 on the year and dealt with injuries to Griffin and other players. The tough road led to the firing of Mike Shanahan and now Jay Gruden comes in as head coach and he brings in a new offense and so far in OTA workouts, it has looked good and so has Griffin. The team needs to bounce back after going winless in the division and the Redskins hope that Griffin will be healthy all season after what happened last year when Kirk Cousins had to finish things off for the team.
