Washington Redskins Rumors: Kirk Cousins Trade Option For RG3 As Colt McCoy Robert Griffin III Backup? Senators Send Nickname Letter To Roger Goodell

The Washington Redskins have had a busy offseason and heading into the summer, a trade of Kirk Cousins still remains an option for the team and the Cleveland Browns or Houston Texans could be interested, as the Redskins have Colt McCoy to serve as the backup for RG3 since Robert Griffin III is the entrenched starter.

The Redskins had a deal on the table for Cousins during the NFL draft, as the Cleveland Browns offered a fourth round pick for him, but the team turned that down. According to ESPN.com writer John Keim, chances are the team is not trading Cousins, but that could change if a team ups there offer in training camp or during the season. Injuries happen all the time and someone like the Texans or Browns could make a move to bring over Cousins as a short term solution, as he has shown that he can play in this league.

Cousins has played in eight games and has started half of those and he has led the Redskins to wins and looked very solid in those performances. Last season Cousins stepped in when Griffin was shut down towards the end of the year and he also previously came in when RG3 was injured. Griffin is obviously the starter in Washington and now that the team has signed Colt McCoy there is a chance they could be more willing to make a deal.

The Redskins made some big moves this offseason and added DeSean Jackson to a solid core that already included Pierre Garcon and chances are they will be much better as long as RG3 remains healthy. The sophomore slump for Griffin was not all his own doing, but he has some attitude issues and needs to fix those for the team to be successful again. Jackson comes over after having the best season of his career and the team now likely will improve after ranking 16th in the league in passing yards per game last year.

The team went 3-13 last season and 0-6 in the division and that will not cut it if they want to get back to the playoffs in 2014. The defense needs to improve and a new offense is coming in now that Jay Gruden has taken over as head coach and so far it has received raves from RG3 and other players like Jackson.

The Redskins are also dealing with an assault on their racist nickname, as 50 Senators from Congress sent a letter to Roger Goodell to put pressure on him to take action, but we all know he won't. Goodell has done a ton of good for the NFL, but he is a hypocrite here and as long as the bottom line of the league or the team is not affected, the name will not get changed, because the NFL sees money as the most important thing and they know there simply are not enough Native Americans out there to protest to make a true dent, so Goodell and Daniel Snyder hide behind their arguments of "honoring" Native Americans with this racist nickname.
