NFL Trade Rumors 2014: Kirk Cousins, Christian Ponder, Mike Glennon, Ryan Mallett, Jake Locker Traded Before Training Camp?

The NFL offseason is moving towards the workouts phase and now that the draft is over, trade talk has slowed a bit and names like Kirk Cousins, Christian Ponder, Mike Glennon, Ryan Mallett, Jake Locker and Ryan Nassib all could be on the move as teams like the Minnesota Vikings, Washington Redskins, Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans and Tampa Bay Buccaneers look to improve into the summer.

While some of these names are unlikely to move, there is a good chance that Mallett and Cousins get traded, as their teams in the Patriots and Redskins do not really "need" them this season and could turn them into future draft picks. The Browns offered the Redskins a fourth round draft pick for Cousins during the draft before the team picked Johnny Manziel, but Washington denied that deal, feeling they could get more value from another team for Cousins, even if it meant later in the season.

The Browns were also considered an option for a deal involving Ryan Mallett, but clearly that is not needed now that Cleveland has Manziel. The team could look to get a bridge quarterback for Manziel, but right now that appears to be Brian Hoyer and he is on the team already. The Titans may look to move Locker after not picking up his fifth year option, but that may just be a motivating tool for him heading into this season and if he doesn't improve they could just let him walk. There are a number of teams that could have been in the mix for these players, but they already took care of their situations, including the Jaguars with taking Blake Bortles and the Vikings with taking Teddy Bridgewater.

The Vikings are in an interesting situation as well, as they now have Matt Cassel in as the starter and Bridgewater behind him along with Christian Ponder. Minnesota has mostly given up on Ponder and now he is trying to beat Bridgewater out of the backup spot after being a former top 15 pick. Last season he was up and down and injured during the year and it's likely that the Vikings are finished with him as a starting quarterback. A team like the Houston Texans still could be in the mix for a starter, as Tom Savage is a raw prospect and Ryan Fitzpatrick is not that exciting of a name.

The Patriots and Mallett seem to be the best option and SI.com reported that the two sides had interest in a deal. Mallett is coming into the final year of his contract and after the Patriots selected Jimmy Garoppolo, it's only a matter of time before Mallett gets moved or leaves the team as a free agent. The Redskins had options with Cousins, but they opted to keep him for now and they could look to trade him this season, as the team signed Colt McCoy and he could take over as the backup for Robert Griffin.

These players may not be traded before training camp, but some of those names could be factors this season, especially if injuries come up. The Buccaneers like Mike Glennon, but Lovie Smith didn't draft him and now the team has Josh McCown as the starter.
