The Vancouver Whitecaps and New York Red Bulls are playing on Saturday night and the MLS Soccer game kicks off the season for both teams and the opener comes from BC Place and has NY looking to put last season's disappointments behind them and it starts up streaming online at 7:30 pm ET.
The game comes after the season started off with the Seattle Sounders and Sporting Kansas City playing out west at CenturyLink Field and that saw the Sounders come out on top after a nice play by Clint Dempsey to set up the winning goal and that gave the team the victory over the Major League Soccer champions from last season. The game came before the first night match with DC United and Columbus playing and that started d up at 7 pm and the games later in the night include the LA Galaxy playing against Real Salt Lake, while Portland and Philadelphia will play the final game of the night.
The Red Bulls open the season on the road and then they will return home against Colorado before playing against Chicago and that comes before a highly anticipated matchup with Chivas USA and that has the team heading out on the road again when they play against Montreal and DC United. The team had general manager Jerome de Bontin step down and they are heading into a very anticipated season and it comes after they won the top seed in the playoffs and then lost once again and now there is pressure on the team to have another good season.
Thierry Henry has been key to the success of the team and after playing here for five years he has said that he will not be retiring and he hopes to bring an MLS Cup to NY during his tenure with the team. Henry has another year left on his deal and he said that he hopes to remain in NY and that he loves living in the city and the team is hoping to start the season on a high note. The Cosmos lent Andre Lewis to the Whitecaps ahead of the season and he will be loaned and that gives the team a chance to get some production out of him after using a first round pick and Vancouver now comes in with one game at home before travelling to play Chivas and then against New England before coming home against Houston.
