DC United and the Columbus Crew are playing on the MLS soccer schedule and the season opener for the teams comes live from RFK Stadium at 7 pm ET and is the first game played after the Seattle Sounders defeated Sporting Kansas City in an exciting match to open the year.
The Sounders put in a goal at the last minute to win the match after an extra time goal from Chad Barrett and that came after Clint Dempsey's header went off the crossbar and it gave Seattle an opening win against the MLS Cup champions in Kansas City. Columbus plays against Philadelphia next and that will be at home and then the team travels to play against Seattle at CenturyLink Field and the team also plays after that against Toronto, San Jose and then against DC United and this time it will be at home.
United come in with a stretch of tough games to start the season and they play next on the road against Toronto and then after that they play three straight at home at RFK Stadium and those will be against Chicago, New England then against the New York Red Bulls and that all comes before another matchup with Columbus again. The team ended up extending the contract of Eddie Johnson before the season started and he was made the designated player for the team for the MLS rules.
Johnson has been solid throughout his career and he was previously traded from Seattle to Wahsington this offseason and he comes in after putting in 23 goals in the last two seasons with the Sounders and he is a player that will be in the mix for the World Cup for the US. Hertha BSC Berlin defender Maik Franz said no to a contract earlier in the offseason as well and now the team is looking to have another good run as they start the season.
United pulled off a trade earlier in the offseason and added midfielder Hector Jimenez from the Galaxy and they traded a second round pick and got a first round pick in return and he is a solid addition, as he has played in over 40 games over the last three seasons. Some of the other games on the schedule includes Vancouver playing against the NY Red Bulls and the Houston Dynamo taking on New England later in the night. Los Angeles Galaxy and Real Salt Lake are playing at 10:30 pm ET and that will come at the same time as Portland playing against Philadelphia.
