The Kansas City Chiefs are looking good, real good boy. They have dominated their first three opponents in the 2013 season and the perfect season chatter is off the to races. The question is, for how long can the Chiefs maintain their greatness? I believe I have the answer to that question. Let's just say, by the time they lose, they could be heavily considered as playoff contenders.
We are looking at a possible 6-0 start for the Chiefs in 2013. Their schedule looks as follows for the next three weeks:
New York Giants 9/29
Tennessee Titans 10/6
Oakland Raiders 10/13
In total, those three teams are currently 2-4 and they are showing no signs of truly competing in their divisions. The Giants don't have a running game and their defense has struggled. The Titans are in the AFC South, a division that belongs to the Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts.
Look for the Chiefs to shut down the Giants' passing game. The Giants are like the Cowboys, great passing game, but no running game and this will cripple them in their Week 4 meeting. The Giants have yet to convince they can win a football game. They have a talented defense and a great receiving core, but they have no pass rush or running game and this is ultimately what will not allow them to beat the Chiefs.
The Titans and Raiders won't be easy matchups, but they have less chances of beating the Chiefs. Of all three, the Raiders might challenge the Chiefs a bit more because they are division rivals. However, the Chiefs will be playing at home, giving them an advantage.
When will the winning stop?
The Chiefs face the Texans in Week 7. The Chiefs will once again play at home and this should give them a boost, but the Texans are too good. Alex Smith will have to continue playing high quality football and Jamaal Charles will have to dominate the running game. The Texans, however, have a truly veteran quarterback with great wide outs and Arian Foster in the back field. Not to mention, the Texans have a great defense.
What's working for the Chiefs is that they might not have to worry about Andre Johnson, allowing them to focus on the other receivers on the Texans team.
If the Chiefs win against the Texans, things really lighten up two weeks later as they host the Cleveland Browns and then play the Buffallo Bills in Week 9, right before their bye week. Can the Chiefs enter the bye 9-0? It's a possibility, though the probably is not in their favor.
The second half of the Chiefs' schedule toughens up, but we'll cross that bridge when the time comes. One thing we have learned through three weeks of football is that the Chiefs have a tough defense that will give the best offenses in football a hard time. As long as they remain healthy, the Chiefs will continue giving their offense a chance to win.
