Swansea's deadline day signing Alvaro Vasquez is raring to go at his new club and believes the sizeable Spanish influence in the squad will help his settle down quickly.

Vazquez completed a season-long move from Getafe on the final day of the transfer window and cannot wait to get started in the English Premier League.

"I'm very happy to be here," the forward, who was part of the Spain squad that won the European Under-21 title, told the club's official website.

"This is a really good opportunity and I will try to make the most of it this season.

"I know a lot about Swansea, not just the club but the players as well. They have a lot of Spanish players that I was aware of, and of course Michael Laudrup as well.

"I'm also aware of the great season that they had last year and now they are playing in the Europa League as well. I have never played in that competition and I'm really looking forward to it.

"Playing in the European Championships was very good. We managed to win it and I'm sure it will help me in the Premier League.

"Also, having a manager that speaks my language is great. Also, coming to a new country and new culture, I now have lots of other Spaniards here that will be really helpful."

Vasquez admitted the chance to play under Michael Laudrup was a major reason behind his decision to join Swansea.

"I know Laudrup as a player, and as a manager as well," he added.

"When I was playing for Espanyol I played against his Mallorca team. I have seen lots of videos of him as a player, and I know his teams play good football and achieve great results.

"It's an honor for me to be here and I will try to do my best and repay him for showing faith in me."

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins said he was delighted to have completed the signing of Vasquez. "First and foremost, we were looking to get in a striker," he said. "He fits the bill.

"We were looking for someone who will complement the two we've got in (Wilfried) Bony and Michu.

"Alvaro is the right age, he's young and has potential. We've known about him for a while. He was initially with Espanyol and then transferred over a year ago.

"We looked at the market and young players with potential. He's 6ft, strong, fast forward that Michael was looking for. He comes into that category.

"Hopefully he'll come and slot straight in and prove a good addition to the squad."
