EPL Transfer News: Lukaku Happy with Everton Decision; Martinez Hints at Permanent Goodison Move for Gareth Barry

Romelu Lukaku said he has no regrets in choosing to seal a season-long switch to Everton, while Roberto Martinez believes Gareth Barry could have a future beyond the current season at Goodison Park.

Everton were one of the busier teams on transfer deadline day, bringing in Lukaku, Barry and James McCarthy, with the former's move in particular raising some eyebrows as the Belgian international was fully expected to remain at Chelsea.

Lukaku had the option of moving back to West Brom, where he spent a highly successful season on loan last season, but believes Everton are the right club for him at the moment.

"I am very glad," he told Sky Sports News. "I read that some said I was not happy but I am very happy -- this is a club that can bring me a lot, and I can bring a lot too.

"I still hope to grow and bring a lot to this team.

"I think at my age it is important to play a lot, I have a good relationship with the coach at Chelsea and I hope to have good results."

Meanwhile, Martinez has given Barry encouragement over a possible long-term future at the club.

Barry's contract with Manchester City expires at the end of the season, and the England midfielder could join the Toffees on a free if everything goes according to plan this year.

"What we want is to find a way where Gareth can come and be a part of Everton and enjoy his football, and we can all enjoy his experience and his quality," Martinez told the club's official website.

"After that, we will see if there is an opportunity to see him for many years to come -- because I do believe Gareth has got a long-term future at the club."

Barry understands he will have to perform well this season, if he is to stand a chance of getting a contract at Everton.

"Obviously that will happen if I can produce good performances this season, stay fit and put a good run of games together," he said.

"That is all down to me impressing the club, so I don't see why that can't happen."

Barry also revealed he is a big fan of Martinez. "The way I've seen his teams play over the years as soon as he got his first management job in English football he's always tried to play the right style of football," he added.

"When I've played against his teams it's always been interesting to see what formations he's played.

"The way I've seen his teams play over the years as soon as he got his first management job in English football he's always tried to play the right style of football.

"He's made it difficult for the teams playing against him and the way he had plans to fit me into the squad was very encouraging - the manager had a big part to play."
