The Los Angeles Lakers are working on filling out their roster for the upcoming season and after signing names like Nick Young and Wesley Johnson, the team may look to add Lou Amundson as a free agent after meeting with him last week.
According to Yahoo Sports, the Lakers met with Amundson, who also got the chance to meet with the Los Angeles Clippers and signing Amundson would be a move that the Lakers have thought about for a while, as they were mentioned in trade rumors with him earlier last season. Amundson would have been a great help while Pau Gasol was dealing with an injury, but the Lakers never pulled the trigger. Amundson spent time with the Chicago Bulls and the New Orleans Pelicans last season and he would come to the Lakers after playing two seasons with the Phoenix Suns and point guard Steve Nash, who is now in LA.
The Lakers are also likely adding Ryan Kelly after drafting him in the second round over the summer and Amundson would come with averages of about four point and four rebounds per game in his career, in which he has played for eight teams. Amundson previously played for Mike D'Antoni on the Suns and his transition into the offense should be smooth. The 30-year-old averaged about two points and three rebounds per game last season and his agent said that the meetings with both the Clippers and the Lakers went well.
The Clippers are Lakers are both looking to fill out their benches and the forward could be a solid option off the bench to play solid minutes for either team. The Clippers have other options they are looking at besides Amundson, as Lamar Odom and Antawn Jamison have popped up on the radar in reports. According to Pro Basketball Talk, the Clippers favor Odom over Jamison, who also has suitors in the Grizzlies and Chicago Bulls. The Clippers may want a more established player, as they have Chris Paul and Blake Griffin and are likely to be one of the top teams in the West.
Jamison is getting up there in age at 37-years-old, but he could provide some solid depth off the bench for the Bulls as they try to get to the Eastern conference finals as Derrick Rose returns. Jamison likely would get a minimum deal and after averaging 9.4 points and 4.8 rebounds in 76 games and dealing with a wrist injury, he appears healthy and ready to contribute. Jamison had dinner with Doc Rivers and there is a chance he could sign with the Slippers if things fall through with the Bulls. Reports also have the Miami Heat interested in Jamison.
