Buccaneers Rumors: Darrelle Revis Out Of New England Patriots Preseason Game, Could Cornerback Return In Week 3 Against Miami Dolphins?

Aug 16, 2013 11:36 AM EDT

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made one of the boldest moves in the offseason by trading for Darrelle Revis and after adding Johnthan Banks in the draft, the team is ready to improve in the secondary, which was ranked last in the league in passing yards allowed last season.

Revis and the team are hoping he can play in week 1 and there is a chance he may play in the third preseason game if he is feeling up to it. If he does that would be the same team he played when he was originally hurt and depending on what the team wants to do, he could end up on the sidelines again as they try to keep him healthy and ensure he can start in that game against the Jets in Week 1.

Revis is on his way back from his injury and the team said that he is on schedule and while he may not be ready for the first game of the season, he will be ready early on no matter what. The Bucs are focused on having him ready for the Jets game and so far there is no indication that it will be an issue. Revis has worked with the training staff mostly and is preparing for that first game. The team has decisions' to make with corners as rookie cornerback Johnthan Banks likely won't start unless Revis has a setback

The team finished 7-9 and 3-3 in the division and ended up 10th and 15th in rushing and passing yards per game. The defense was the biggest issue for the team and after bringing over Revis and signing Dashon Goldson that should drastically improve. The team ranked 32nd in passing yards allowed per game with nearly 300, while the team was first in rushing yards per game and that needs to be more balanced next year. The team has an odd schedule with a Week 5 bye, meaning the second half of the season needs to be a success to make the playoffs. Doug Martin had a great rookie season and he will only get better with another year under his belt and things won't be too tough at the beginning with games against the Jets, Saints, Pats and Cardinals. The team opens at the Jets, giving Darrelle Revis a nice homecoming.

The Bucs will get off to a quick start on the schedule with game against the Jets, Saints, Patriots and Cardinals before a bye in week five and then things don't slow down for a while, as the team will face off against the Eagles, Falcons, Panthers and Seahawks. The team got good numbers from Vincent Jackson and rookie Doug Martin and after 4,000 yards and 27 touchdowns from Josh Freeman, he looks ready to take the next step despite throwing too many interceptions last season. The Bucs selected Mike Glennon to sit behind him, but if Schaino likes what he sees, there is a good chance that he could end up starting a game or two in 2013.
