Chicago Blackhawks forward Andrew Shaw had one of the best viral moments of the Stanley Cup playoffs after taking a puck to the face in Game 6 of the finals and getting stitches before returning and now he will auction those very stitches for charity.
According to ESPN.com, Shaw will auction off the stiches from the matchup against the Boston Bruins in Game 6 and he will donate the money to The V Foundation for cancer research. The game occurred back on June 24 and after getting hit in the face and getting knocked down on the ice, Shaw got stitches and eventually returned to the game. The Blackhawks won the matchup and took the Cup after winning the game and the auction will be on August 15 and will run for 10 days on eBay.
Shaw was one of the most consistent players for the Blackhawks and he ended up with five goals and four assists in the playoffs for the team. Shaw was one of the stars after winning the Cup, as many pictures of him and the Cup and his bloody face appeared online as the team was celebrating.
"Immediately after the finals, I suggested to Andrew that he keep his stitches as we could use them to raise money for a good cause," said AM Sports Marketing Group owner Joel Alpert, who is helping Shaw with the auction. "Andrew said he wanted to support breast cancer research, and from there we came up with the auction concept."
