Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III is one of the most popular players in the league after bursting onto the scene last season and now that he is coming back from an ACL injury, he will be one of the most interesting players to watch in 2013.
Griffin is supremely popular and that is one reason why he is appearing on the cover of GQ and is featured in a magazine cover story for this month. Head coach Mike Shanahan has said that Griffin will not play in the preseason as a precaution and while the quarterback said he did not agree, clearly the coach is the one calling the shots for the Redskins. The Redskins wanted to be as careful as they could when it comes to his recovery and that is one reason why he is not playing in the preseason. The team loved what Griffin did in the offense last season while winning rookie of the year and this year they are expecting even more out of him and if he can avoid getting hurt, there is a good chance that he will get the team back to the playoffs again. Griffin showed last year that he is more than just a running quarterback after making some amazing plays in the air and he also showed poise in the pocket all season.
Teams had no idea how to cover him and with another year under his belt, he should be even better for the Skins. Griffin spoke about a number of topics, including how he changed the cell phone security code to the date he is expecting to return, aka the first game of the season against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football, changing it to 9813, as in Sept. 8, the date of the game.
Griffin also spoke about the Rob Parker incident that got him fired as well as drinking and smoking. Griffin said that he has never used any drugs and that he has never tasted alcohol before, although if he did he would drink with his wife for the first time. His favorite food is the Quesadilla casserole his wife makes and now Griffin is focused on coming back and being strong this season for the Skins.
