The Dallas Cowboys have been in the same practice location in Irving for over 30 years and after a new agreement was approved this week, the team will now move to Frisco where a new practice facility and franchise headquarters will be built.
According to ESPN.com, the Cowboys will not move to a new facility after the Frisco City Council approved a $115 million deal to move their headquarters and practice facility north of Dallas in the suburbs, the first time in years they will not be in Irving. The report says that the school district will put $30 million into the deal and theirs team will play in the stadium, which will help boost the area. According to ESPN.com, the new facility will be ready in 2016 and moves the team after they originally built the Valley Ranch location in the 1980s.
The Cowboys previously played in Texas Stadium in the area before moving into AT&T Stadium in Arlington, which cost over a billion dollars to build. The Cowboys played in the Hall of Fame game against the Dolphins and won on Sunday last week before playing the Oakland Raiders and losing 19-17 in their opening preseason game. The team will next play the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2.
Longtime player Jason Witten on the news from ESPN: "It sounds great," said tight end Jason Witten, the franchise leader in receptions. "I think as players you don't really have any control over that. It's a new facility, and you always appreciate everything about this organization is first-class. I'm sure that won't be any different."
