Redskins Rumors: RG3 Out For Washington Gives Kirk Cousins Chance In Preseason As Robert Griffin III Healing, Skins Play Tennessee Titans at 8 PM Thursday

The Washington Redskins are playing against the Tennessee Titans in the first week of the preseason and with Robert Griffin III coming back from a serious injury he will not play and Kirk Cousins will get a nice look after starring last season when Griffin was hurt and he will have the chance to show the team what he can do when working with the offense.

Last season he got the chance to play for a hurt Griffin and now he will get to do it again and after he threw a 77-yard touchdown pass to a Santana Moss last year, the team feels that he has potential to be an excellent starter in the league. The team ranked 20th in passing yards per game and first in rushing with Griffin and Alfred morris and now fans will have to wait to see RG3 until the regular season.

The Redskins had one of the most exciting seasons in recent memory and although they proved to have a solid backup in last year's fellow rookie Kirk Cousins, Griffin is the future in Washington and after coming off of ACL surgery he is looking to come back stronger and just as explosive as the offense evolves again. Many in DC say that Griffin has a higher approval rating than President Obama and while that may be, the year for the Redskins will depend on his health. The team may try to keep him in the pocket more to help hold back some of the hits he took last season, but that was why he was so successful in the first place.

The Redskins will play the Oakland Raiders in 2013 season after the Raiders went just 4-12 last year, but one thing the team should worry about is playing against Griffin III and the Washington Redskins for the first time since 2009, which came on the west coast and saw the Raiders lose 34-14.

Griffin took the league by storm last year and this time around he will give the Raiders defense fits despite improvements from Reggie McKenzie, as he likely will continue his strong play from last season. McKenzie added names like Charles Woodson, DJ Hayden, Kevin Burnett, Nick Roach, Tracy Porter and Mike Jenkins and that should help improve the defense greatly from last season. The two franchises have a rich history that started in October of 1070 and that gam saw the Raiders win and overall they have a 7-4 record in all-time matchups.

Fred Davis has been working hard to get fully healthy after dealing with a serious Achilles injury and he is hoping to put in a good season and then go for a long-term contract as he pushes for a third time in negotiations. Davis had issues the previous season after being suspended four games for violating the substance abuse policy and now as he is coming back from injury he is hoping to put up solid numbers while working with Robert Griffin III in the offense.

Davis is on a one-year, $2.5 million contract after dealing with the injury and next offseason he is hoping to sign a deal more in tune with what players like Jared Cook, Martellus Bennett and Delanie Walker signed. Bennett went to the Bears after a breakout year with the Giants, who signed Brandon Myers to replace him after looking at Davis. He was tagged in 2011 by the Redskins and now he has to battle with Logan Paulsen and new rookie Jordan Reed on the depth chart.

"I feel like I've got to prove myself again," Davis said, via Nathan Fenno of the Washington Times. "Everything I've done before doesn't matter."

Davis was one of the most consistent players on the team before dealing with his suspension and things got derailed more when he tore the Achilles in October against the Giants. Davis wants to be an important weapon in an offense that features Griffin and rookie sensation Alfred Morris and he hopes that will get him a deal more in line with Cook and Walker. Bennett signed a four year deal worth $20 million, while Cook got five years and over $35 million.
