Tiger Woods hits his third shot on the 11th hole during the first round of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational golf tournament in Akron, Ohio, August 1."

The WGC-Bridgestone Invitational heads into the third round on Saturday and Tiger Woods is atop the leaderboard after sniffing close to a record round, but instead he just settled for a nine under 61 that tied his career best score and now he has the chance to win again on Tour this year with a seven stroke lead heading into the weekend at 13 under par.

Woods has struggled at majors recently, but at the WGC he is looking mighty and this comes after he already won the WGC-Cadillac Championship earlier this year. Woods has won four times on tour already this year and now he had the chance to add another victory to his resume this season with a win at the Firestone Country Club. Woods looked sharp off the tee and especially on the greens and he started off by birding the first four holes on the back side and put up a 61, very close to the record 59. Woods would have been just the sixth player to do it in PGA Tour history and had a chance with 13 holes to go, but he couldn't quite get there.

Stuart Appleby last did it back in 2010 and no player has ever done it on the European Tour before. Woods last shot a 61 at the Buick Open and he has the seven shot lead over last year's winner Keegan Bradley and he also holds that lead over Chris Wood, who will be grouped together on Saturday. The tournament is dealing with some weather and will have a two tee start and Woods has an eight stroke lead over Bill Haas and Henrik Stenson, who are in fourth place.

Saturday's second best score was by John Merrick with a 66 and average on the day was a 71 and Woods looked in control the entire time and is shaping up after some tough struggles over the summer. Woods is still the number one player in the world and he has looked better this year than the previous few, but he still has yet to win a major and everyone is wondering when his next one will come after winning the 2008 US Open in a playoff. He is still being Jack Nicklaus for his record and has 14 major championships in his career.

Woods has previously won this tournament seven times and he has won 17 World Golf Championship events as well and now he has the chance to do it again, his second on tour this year. Woods last won at the tournament back in 2009 and put up a 65 in the final two rounds to take the win and he will try and do it again on Saturday and Sunday to get his fifth victory this year on the PGA Tour, more than any other player on the circuit.
