The transfer window period is taking on a life of its own this season and after reports came out that Real Madrid is possibly looking at a Bale €100 million bid for Tottenham's Garthe Bale, Arsenal head Arsene Wenger has called the deal a joke.
According to ESPNFC.com, Wenger said that the bid for Bale makes a "joke" of Financial Fair Play and the transfer period and that the team is working on talks with Liverpool star Luis Suarez and says that they are "amicable" as of now and they are progressing. Real Madrid is looking for a big move, with some saying that the reason is that they are afraid to lose Cristiano Ronaldo, and the club is hoping that they can get Bale after he won Player of the Season for his work in the Premier League. Bale became the first player from the Spurs to win the award and came after he scored 20 goals in league play. Real wants him badly and while other clubs have tried to get him and the Spurs have tried to get him to stay, it appears that he will be headed to Madrid eventually.
The Gunners made a £40 bid on Suarez from Liverpool and Wenger added that Bale's move is quite amazing and that he wonders if it will have an affect overall on the football world. He spoke about Suarez and said that while Liverpool hopes to hold onto him, the Gunners would like to get him and said that he respects the other club and that if it is done the right way, they would like to sign him.
Wenger said that he wants to keep things as confidential as possible and that they would like to get the player if they can. Suarez is currently serving a 10-game ban from the FA for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic last season and Wenger added that if he came to the Gunners, the would not tolerate that style of play and that the club has high standards for values.
"I don't want to speak about Suarez, because that is between Liverpool and Arsenal. We will completely respect what Liverpool wants to do. We want to (sign the player) if it is feasible in an amicable way," Wenger said.
