The New England Patriots are an active team in the local community and the Aaron Hernandez murder case has crept its way into that area of the organization as well, as the former tight end was replaced in a youth football camp that is set to take place this weekend.
Hernandez was originally scheduled to take part in the Citi New England Football Clinic presented by SunnyD and the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern New England that will take place at a local high school, but according to the Boston Herald, he will be replaced by a number of other Patriots players. The report says that tackle Nate Solder, running back Shane Vereen and quarterback Ryan Mallett will take part in the youth camp instead of Hernandez, who was scheduled to headline the event. Hernandez was released by the team after being arrested and now he is in jail awaiting trial after being charged with first degree murder in the shooting death of Odin Lloyd, a 27-year-old semi-football player.
The Patriots decided to cut ties right after Hernandez was arrested and it came after the body of Lloyd was discovered less than a mile from the home of Hernandez. Details about the case have come into light after a 156-page document was unsealed by the court and includes information about Hernandez's behavior early in the investigation as well as what evidence the state has in the case. Hernandez was agitated with police after they first started asking questions and he eventually went to the station to speak with the authorities and was driven by his girlfriend.
The case involving Hernandez has shed light on more of his past activities as well as connections to other incidents and he is also being investigated in connection with a double murder in Boston last year. Hernandez failed a drug test while playing at Florida and was also involved in a bar fight that quarterback Tim Tebow tried to resolve. Hernandez now faces life in prison as he awaits trial and now more details in the case could come out if more of the warrants are unsealed.
