Edinson Cavani is closing in on a move to Paris Saint-Germain, with the French club's sporting director Leonardo revealing they had made an "interesting" offer to Napoli.
Cavani has been the subject of interest from several big clubs, including English Premier League duo Chelsea and Manchester City and Spanish giants Real Madrid.
However, neither of the aforementioned clubs have been ready to match Cavani's buyout clause of €63 million (£54 million, $83 million), with Napoli refusing to budge from the asking price.
PSG came in later, showing an interest in the Uruguay forward, with new manager Laurent Blanc clearly a big fan.
The French champions are thought to have come forward with a second offer of around £50 million ($75 million), after their first offer of £43 million ($64 million) was reportedly rejected by Napoli.
While not revealing the actual amount of the bid, Leonard believes the latest offer could do the trick.
"We presented (Napoli president Aurelio) De Laurentiis with an offer that I consider really interesting," Leonardo told Il Mattino.
"The negotiations continue. We will remain in contact and, in these next few days, there could be news."
Chelsea were at one point thought to be the frontrunners for the signature of Cavani, who is thought to have been offered a salary of €10 million (£8.6 million, $12.7 million) a year by PSG, with Manchester City refusing to match the players' release clause.
The Blues were reported to have struck a deal with Napoli, but those reports seem to be wide of the mark, with Jose Mourinho now thought to be turning his attentions towards the likes of Wayne Rooney and Robert Lewandowski.
Manchester United manager David Moyes has categorically said Rooney is not for sale, while Jurgen Klopp revealed he expects Lewandowski to join Bayern Munich next summer.
Real Madrid are thought to be Cavani's preferred destination, but the Spanish club have reportedly not even made a firm offer to Napoli as yet, and it remains to be seen if new manager Carlo Ancelotti will decide to rival his former club PSG for the striker's signature.
