Manchester United manager David Moyes refused to be drawn out on the possible transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo, while the Portuguese insisted he is happy at Real Madrid.
Speaking at his first press conference as United manager, Moyes chose to remain quiet when asked about a sensational return for Ronaldo.
"I would never speak about players at other clubs," the former Everton boss said. "That's not my style.
"When people have contracts at other clubs it's wrong to speak about them. But this club is always interested in the best players.
"United had a great season in the Premier League last year and we'll do everything we can to add to the squad. This club will always go after the best players and we'll do what we can to remain at the top."
Ronaldo has been constantly linked with a move back to Old Trafford, with Real Madrid, as yet, failing to convince the 28-year-old to sign a new deal at the Bernabeu.
However, Ronaldo, while not being overly enthusiastic, said he wants to continue playing with Real.
"I enjoy of course to play there (Real Madrid), I play there for four years so I want to continue there," Ronaldo told Sky Sports News.
"It is not the best day to speak about my future. I am going to have time to speak about that at the beginning of preseason."
Meanwhile, Moyes said he does not expect to bring in new faces to United before the start of the preseason tour next week, while adding he would continue the club's tradition of emphasizing on youth.
"I'll try but I couldn't honestly say yes," he said. "Time is closing in on me now.
"The way the window works, I think the deals may be done a little later this season. There are a few new managers so I don't think everything will be done right away.
"Everton didn't shop where Manchester United shop in the transfer window," he added. "But this club will always try to buy the best young players and also bring through players from the academy.
"That's in the DNA and we're looking to bring through our own players."
