Liverpool have agreed a deal with Celta Vigo for highly-rated forward Iago Aspas, with Brendan Rodgers also targeting Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

Aspas was seen in Liverpool for a medical earlier this week and it was just a matter of time before Liverpool would confirm the deal, thought to be worth £7.7 million ($12 million).

"Liverpool have tonight (Thursday) agreed a deal in principle with Celta Vigo for striker Iago Aspas, subject to documentation being completed," the club said in a statement on their official website.

Aspas scored 12 goals for Celta Vigo last season, with the more interesting statistic being the fact that he was involved in 51 percent of all goals scored by the Spanish club in the recently-concluded campaign.

While the 25-year-old will find it difficult to break into the first team immediately, there is little doubt that Aspas can be used pretty well as a squad player, with Rodgers continuing to strengthen his squad over the summer, after struggling to cope with the lack of numbers last season.

Center-back Kolo Toure has also agreed a move to Anfield, while Liverpool are working on several other deals as well.

A signing that is possible is Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, with Rodgers readying a bid for the Belgian international, according to Sky Sports.

The future of Pepe Reina remains up in the air, and even if the Spaniard stays at Anfield, Rodgers might think it necessary to keep the competition for places at the highest level possible.

Sunderland will be loathe to let their player of the season go without a fight, and will demand at least £9 million ($14 million).

Mignolet, who has also been linked with a move to Arsenal, has two years remaining on his contract, and his agent recently said his client could stay with Sunderland for next season, while not completely ruling out a move away.

The Reds have also been linked with a move for Stoke goalkeeper Asmir Begovic, so it remains to be seen who, if any, Rodgers goes for in the coming weeks.
