The Houston Cougars and SMU Mustangs are facing off in a rivalry on Friday afternoon, as Southern Methodist University heads to Reliant Stadium for a game that will air on ESPN2 starting up at 12:00 pm noon and the game is also streaming online from the WatchESPN website and that game is a matchup of two Lone Star state teams in Texas.

Houston comes into the game ranked 25th in the nation in passing yards with nearly 300 per contest and the team is averaging over 30 points per game and that matchup on Friday should be a good one and SMU will be looking to get bowl eligible this season and Houston comes in already clinching it with a 7-4 record and they are 4-3 in the American conference. The team has lost three games in a row heading into the final regular season matchup of the season and comes after the team played two ranked teams in the last three games with UCF and Louisville and both those games came on the road and now the team finishes with two games in a row at home and they comes into the game allowing just 22 points per game and they will have to play tough on Friday.

The SMU offense is a high powered one and averaged over 360 yards per game and that means the Houston secondary will need to play tight and tough and they have one game left against UCF at home to end the season on December 7 and that is another chance for the team to get into a bowl. SMU has been up some solid numbers through the air all season and they have won four of five games and two in a row and before that the team lost three games in a row and now they have the chance to end things on a high note and they have two games to get it done here and both will be airing on ESPN.

The team comes into the game after a win over South Florida where they held the team to less than a touchdown and before that they had a nice win over UConn and now the team will be taking on another strong passing team in the Cougars. Houston's own Case Keenum has been playing for the Houston Texans and now the Mustangs have two chances to get into a bowl game and it will be tough to get past a solid Houston team and neither SMU or the Cougars will play into the conference title, as UCF is in the top spot, but that means the Mustangs will get a chance to knock them off for Louisville or Cincy. Garrett Gilbert has been excellent with over 3,500 yards this season and he also has 21 touchdown passes.
