Atlanta Braves Rumors: Holes Will Be Patched By Minor Leaguers

Jan 10, 2013 04:31 PM EST

The Atlanta Braves are making a small shift in their minor league roster after inviting Joey Terdoslavich to spring training this year. Formerly a third baseman, Terdoslavich will be moved to the outfield where he is expected to adjust to the new position over the spring.

Terdoslavich is a 24-year-old that proved he had some pop after spending three years in the Braves' minor league system.

In 2011, he had a breakout season smashing 20 home runs with 84 RBI and posting a .286 average. Many fans wondered if he was to become Chipper Jones' replacement after the future Hall of Famer announced his retirement.

However, Terdoslavich, who is 6' 0" weighing 200 pounds, struggled last season as he moved up the Braves' ranks. He posted an impressive .315 batting average in Double-A while in Mississippi, but his power numbers disappeared after hitting just five home runs. When he was moved up to Gwinett, the Braves' Triple-A affeliate, he struggled with power and hitting in general posting a .180 batting average with four homers.

Now, Mark Bowman, Braves beat writer, says the team has invited Terdoslavich as an outfielder.

This should be no surprise to Braves fans as the team has been searching for outfielders all winter long. They signed B.J. Upton, which filled their vacancy in centerfield as Michael Bourn continues to look for work.

Terdoslavich fits the Braves' description as a need in their starting lineup. Well, almost everything. He's a switch-hitter, so he will remind many of Jones and if he can play outfield well, he can win the left field starting spot.

However, the Braves will be without a legitimate leadoff hitter as Martin Prado will likely take over the role. Prado is a perfect No. 2 guy in a lineup because of his ability to make contact, he isn't know for his speed despite swiping 17 bags in the season.

Ideally, the Braves hope Juan Francisco can step it up and become an everyday third basemen leaving Prado in left field.

Terdoslavich isn't guaranteed a spot in the roster and will have to earn it if he wants to start in outfield for the Braves in 2013.
