Los Angeles Lakers News: Kobe Bryant Makes His Very Own Twitter Account

Jan 04, 2013 01:45 PM EST

It's been a long time coming but finally after all the rumors and speculations, Los Angeles Lakers All-Star Kobe Bryant has finally done what many of his fans have longed anticipated.

He joined Twitter.

Yup, he finally joined the Twitter universe after he's tweeted some things off of Nike's account. The five-time NBA champion has only one tweet, but already has over 80,000 followers. His lone post has already come close to 6,000 retweets and over 1,200 favorites.

His page has been verified by Twitter with the blue check by his name but as now he has no images or profile picture, just the start up Twitter mascot.

With Kobe now officially a member of Twitter it'll be interesting to see who he follows, that is assuming he does. Wonder if LeBron James, who's a very active member on Twitter, will get a follow, or even Kevin Durant.

Kobe's submission to Twitter may put the always outspoken guard into trouble if he doesn't think before he tweets. Since the very first tweet, fans have witnessed first hand their favorite celebrities get themselves into trouble with a tweet, but hopefully Kobe has learned from the mistakes of others.

Twitter can become a slight distraction if he's not careful. Now that he's connected he'll surely be receiving tweets from those who love and hate him. Not saying that he can't handle it, but sometimes he might just get one person to say something that, under normal cirumstances, would demand to be addressed.

Either way one thing is for sure, Kobe has something to brag about. If Michael Jordan decides to make a Twitter, he'll have to catch up to Kobe this time.
