The Kansas City Royals are reportedly interested in Anibal Sanchez as they continue to bolster their starting rotation.
Sanchez closed out the 2012 season on a high note.
More importantly, he performed well in the playoffs, surprising many and finally showing the talent the Florida/Miami Marlins were waiting to bloom.
In six and a half seasons with the Marlins, Sanchez's best season came in his rookie year after going 10-3 with a 2.83 ERA. From then on he struggled and only had one full season where he finished over .500. In 2010 he went 13-12 with a 3.55 ERA.
In his first ever playoff appearance, Sanchez was lights out.
He threw 20.1 innings in three starts allowing just four earned runs on 14 hits for a 1.77 ERA. He struckout 18 and walked six.
Sanchez's best performance came against the New York Yankees in the ALCS where he pitched seven innings allowing three hits, walked three, struckout seven and gave up zero runs.
Though his regular season win-loss record as a Tiger don't do him any justice, he gave up two or less runs in seven of his 12 starts in his new team.
The Royals acquired Ervin Santana, who is a workhorse, via trade earlier in the offseason and resigned Jeremy Guthrie to three years for $25 million.
Sanchez is not exactly an ace, but if he can perform anywhere near the way he did for the Tigers, he can bring a lot of help to the Royals.
