Dallas Cowboys: Jared Goff To Be Cowboys' First Round Pick?

The Dallas Cowboys had been rumored to be looking to take a quarterback before the Super Bowl even took place. Headed into the Senior Bowl, the Cowboys were expected to take Carson Wentz after he practiced and played under the Jason Garrett and several Cowboys coaches. Now, as we approach the 2016 NFL Draft, Mel Kiper, Jr., believes that Jared Goff will wear a star on his helmet when it's all said and done.

Goff has been projected to be the highest rated quarterback in the 2016 NFL Draft and he still very well could be. Wentz could be a great quarterback as well, but to let Goff slide that far is a bit ridiculous.

The Cowboys do need the heir apparent to Tony Romo, and it has become increasingly unclear when they would make such a move. Owner Jerry Jones has stated vehemently that he believes Romo has another three to four years left as a starting quarterback, which means the Cowboys may not even be looking for a quarterback in this draft.

One thing to also remember about Romo: he went undrafted. Yes, that means no fancy first round pedigree for him, just maximum effort. The Cowboys paying for what a player is worth just does not seem like the present Dallas Cowboys. This is the same team that let DeMarcus Ware, DeMarco Murray and Jason Hatcher leave in free agency.

So if the Cowboys were not willing to pay full price for those players, who really is to say they will spend a first round selection on a quarterback? Mel Kiper in his second mock draft, that's who.
