Who is Greg McElroy? New Jets Starting Quarterback?

Dec 02, 2012 04:26 PM EST

The New York Jets might have received a true blessing after Mark Sanchez was benched and Tim Tebow was injured and unable to play in this game. Greg McElroy took charge and scored on his first QB drive in the NFL.

He was super accurate going 5/7 for 29 yards and a touchdown.

Though the stats are miniscule, he did enough to win the game for the Jets.

The touchdown in that third quarter drive was enough to win the ballgame against a struggling Arizona Cardinals team.

So who exactly is this hero that rose out of the Jets bench Sunday afternoon?

McElroy is a 7th round pick out of Alabama and 208 overall in the 2011 draft.

His pick analysis precisely has him as a backup quarterback who can "Fully grasps the mental side of the game and has succeeded in multiple pressure-packed situations. "

In Alabama, McElroy over 5,000 passing yards, 222 completions, 39 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while with the Crimson Tide in four seasons. He was a part of the 2009 team that won the BCS championship.

Rex Ryan was very serious about having Sanchez as his starting quarterback, therefore it is unknown if he will stick with McElroy in Week 14 as the Jets will take on the Jacksonville Jaguars.
