One of Arsenal's most talked-about targets Mario Gotze could be available for a fixed fee, if the Gunners want to make their move, after it was revealed that the Borussia Dortmund playmaker has a release clause.
The German international is one of the brightest young talents in Europe at the moment and has been in stellar form for Borussia Dortmund this season, after injuries curtailed his progress to a certain extent last year.
Gotze only recently signed a new contract with the German champions to stay at the club until 2016; however, there is a clause in the contract which allows an interested buyer to put in an offer.
According to the Daily Mail, Gotze has a release clause of £30 million ($48 million). But the catch is the clause expires in July, with a written agreement needed to be submitted to Dortmund by April.
Gotze has been linked with Arsenal for quite a while now, with Arsene Wenger seriously considering making a bid for the German international in the summer of 2011.
However, Dortmund refused to consider a sale at that point of time, but Wenger could move Gotze in the January transfer window, or as soon as the season ends this year.
There is no question about the fact that the £30 million is a huge amount by Arsenal's standards, however when it comes to young players who have proven themselves, Wenger is not too short on the cash - especially since the manager reportedly has about £40 million ($64 million) to spend in the January transfer window alone.
Dortmund reportedly rejected an offer nearing £30 million two summers ago for Gotze from the Gunners, with Arsenal, as Wenger confirmed earlier this season, also putting in a £32 million offer for Eden Hazard, but being blown out of the water by the wages offered by the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City.
Arsenal also lost out on the big money transfer of Phil Jones, who chose to join Manchester United, after both clubs had agreed a fee with Blackburn Rovers.
So, keeping all that in mind, and the obvious need for Arsenal to inject some pace in the inside-wide positions, Gotze would be the perfect signing, and at 20-years-old, the inch-perfect Wenger signing.
