Coming off a painful loss to the NFC Champions the Carolina Panthers, the Arizona Cardinals are currently looking towards the offseason where they hope to not only add a pass rush but to lock down Tyrann Mathieu to a long term deal.

The Cardinals biggest free agent will most likely be cornerback Jerraud Powers who counts $5,350,000 against the cap so the Cardinals could easily resign him. With $22 million plus in cap space the Cardinals are in a great position to not only sign their own free agents and land a solid pass rusher, but also to resign one of their best players Tyrann Mathieu.

The Honey badger will likely command a huge price on the open market in 2017 if he ever gets there. The Cardinals would like to resign Mathieu to the biggest contract possible before the 2017 free agency period casts a shadow on his return. Mathieu did suffer a torn ACL this season however that does not seem to deter the Cardinals in any manner from looking to give him a large contract extension.

The Cardinals saw what a future looked like without Mathieu during the NFC championship game and it was not pretty. The Cardinals should do everything in their power to have the versatile defensive back on the team for years to come.
