Texans vs. Lions Predictions: Thanksgiving Day Football Upset On Deck Thursday?

Nov 21, 2012 04:00 PM EST

The Detroit Lions host the Houston Texans as they will open up a triple header of NFL action at 12:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon on Thanksgiving.

The Texans have been rolling all season long losing only one game so far at the hands of the Green Bay Packers. It was a horrendous loss as Aaron Rodgers threw for six touchdowns and simply played with the Texans.

Houston has bounced back and posted a 9-1 record tied with the Atlanta Falcons for the best in the league.

Though not the Packers, the Lions have a potent passing game. They have the best passing game in the NFL as Matt Stafford and Calvin Johnson provide a lethal combo.

The Texans might be in trouble with these Lions because of their aerial artillery. As we know, however, the Texans defense is simply one of the best in the NFL.

They just have to actually play and not get pushed to the brink the way the Jacksonvill Jaguars almost embarassed them last week.

Houston will win this game because of their defense and because of their running specialist Arian Foster.

Foster comes into this game just 38 yards shy of 1,000 rushing and has 10 touchdowns on the ground.

The Lions present a great pass defense, meaning Matt Schaub will have to be careful as Detroit is the 8th best pass defense allowing just 214 yards per game.

However, the Lions are 16th in the NFL allowing 114 yards per game on the ground. So Foster will be key.

Do I think the Texans will win this one?

Yes.

Do I think the Lions can surprise the Texans?

Yes.

Prediction: The Texans suffered a scare in Week 11 and they are not about to lose a moment to shine on the national stage as they are trying to prove they are the best team in the NFL. I say Schaub and Foster lead the way on offense and the Texans defense will make enough stops to prevent the Lions from taking this one.

Final Score: 31-21 Houston Texans over the Detroit Lions
