Detroit Tigers Rumors: Torii Hunter On the Verge of Signing?

Nov 13, 2012 01:03 PM EST

It was rumored that Torii Hunter met with the Tigers in Detroit on Tuesday morning.

Could this be where Hunter signs?

Hunter did say he wasn't going to play any games and waste time as he knew exactly where he was going to go.

If he signs in Detroit, he can fill numerous voids the Tigers possess. Firstly, he will take over the right field duties in Comerica Park as they Tigers used the platoon system all year long interchanging players like Andy Dirks, Quentin Berry, Brennan Boesch and Avisail Garcia.

Adding Hunter to the batting lineup would kill to birds with one stone as one, he is a right handed hitter with power who can produce and has hit well against lefties, something the Tigers struggled to do all season long.

Though the Tigers showed dominance in the ALDS and ALCS, in the World Series, their inabiliti to hit left handed pitching was exposed as Barry Zito and Madison Bumgarner shut them down.

Hunter is also not only a leader on the field with his bat and glove, but the Tigers lacked a voval leader in the clubhouse as Victor Martinez was out the entire season. He is expected to return in 2013.

Imagine that lineup? Austin Jackson, Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder, Hunter, Martinez and possibly Delmon Young?

There is balance, some speed, a lot of power and a lot of contact hitters in that group right there.

Most importantly, they are all hungry for a World Series. Torii Hunter has never made a World Series appearance in his career.
