Cleveland Indians Rumors: Kevin Youkilis to Be Reunited with Terry Francona?

Nov 08, 2012 05:15 PM EST

The Cleveland Indians have Terry Francona as their manager and while Kevin Youkilis was on the trading block, they showed interest in acquiring the third baseman.

Could the Indians be on the run for acquiring?

Rumors are swirling that the answer is yes.

Paul Hoylse of The Plain Dealer said that it is beleived the Indians are once again interested in acquiring Youkilis, but mainly to play first base for them . They have their No. 1 prospect Lonnie Chisenhall taking over the duties at third.

The key to the acquisition of Youkilis would be reuniting him with their new manager Francona as both won championships while in the Boston Red Sox organization.

They both arrived in 2004, but Francona was fired in 2011. Youkilis did not last much longer as he was traded after not getting along with manager Bobby Valentine while, simultaneously, Will Middlebrooks began playing exceptionally well at third base.

Youkilis became a tradable asset and he was shipped to Chicago.

The three-time All-Star is a resident of Cincinnati, so playing in Cleveland would make a whole lot of sense. He became a free agent after the White Sox declined his $13 million option for 2013.

Youkilis hit .236 with 15 homers and drove in 46 RBI in 80 games with the White Sox.
