The Miami Dolphins lost to the New England Patriots on Thursday night and the team also lost Cameron Wake to a season ending injury. Ryan Tannehill struggled in the game after having a historic day last week and the Dolphins suffered their first defeat under interim coach Dan Campbell.

The Dolphins were 2-0 in their first two games under Campbell and the team averaged 40 points in those wins. The team scored just seven points against the Patriots and that was on a rushing touchdown from Lamar Miller. Cameron Wake suffered a serious injury in the game and had to be taken off the field and according to ESPN, Wake will be out for the season with a torn Achilles.

Wake is one of the top pass rushers in the league and he had four sacks in one game during the 2-0 stretch for the Dolphins. Replacing Wake will be very tough for the Dolphins and now the 33-year-old will have a long rehab ahead of him. Olivier Vernon and Derrick Shelby now will be the main defensive ends for the Dolphins and the team now has to find a way to replace his production and the pressure he puts on the quarterback.

Pro Football Focus had Wake as the top rated DE over the last two weeks and he ends the season with seven sacks and nine total tackles. Wake put up a combined 12 sacks, hits and hurries in the two wins under Campbell and now his future in Miami is uncertain. Wake is coming into the final year of his contract and he will be set to count as $9.8 million on the cap next season. The defense has been playing more aggressively under Campbell and Wake was a big part of that.

Tannehill and the Dolphins offense could not get things going until the Miller touchdown and while Tannehill passed for 300 yards, he had zero touchdowns and two interceptions. Tannehill set a record for consecutive completions last week and he had four touchdowns against the Texans, but on the short week against the Patriots he was not as sharp. Tannehill has been up and down this season and he has 13 touchdowns and nine interceptions while completing 62 percent of his passes for Miami.

Lamar Miller had a huge game against the Texans last week and he was limited on Thursday to just 15 yards on nine carries. Miller scored a touchdown in the game after putting up 236 total yards last week and he will likely be a main part of the offense moving forward when the Dolphins take on the Bills next.
