NY Rangers News and Updates: Tanner Glass Placed On Waivers, Assigned To AHL Hartford Wolf Pack To Help Salary Cap Squeeze

The New York Rangers had some pretty big decisions to make on Tuesday in regards to their salary cap.

The first victim of the Rangers looking to find some breathing room is Tanner Glass, a veteran who had 2 years left on his $4.35 million contract. This move gives the Rangers around $1.1 million dollars in contract space and will bring their roster down to 22 players. Glass was the wrong kind of slow for the Rangers; often his play would affect the play of his linemates and this led to lost possessions and faulty penalty killing.

Glass is a tough guy who could hit pretty hard however when it came down to it, at the end of the day the Rangers do not need him.

The Rangers will likely keep Emerson Etem and Dylan Mcllrath. Glass was also significantly older than his counterparts at the tail end of the roster at 31 so such a hefty contract would only continue to hold the Rangers back in their quest for the Cup.

Now with some breathing room the Rangers can begin to look at trades and possible upgrades on both sides of the puck. If Glass is not claimed he will likely be assigned to Hartford giving the Rangers $500,000 in dead cap space.
