Tampa Bay Buccaneers News: Can Bucs Keep Doug Martin After Solid Start To Season With Jameis Winston, Charles Sims Offensive Unit?

Oct 16, 2015 09:35 AM EDT

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers may find themselves in an interesting position at the end of the season. Doug Martin's contract will be up and he will be a free agent.

Before the 2015 season started it was almost certain the Bucs would not overpay for him but now they may have too. Martin is on pace to reach his career high in rushing yards for a single season and is far from done. In only 5 games Martin has amassed 405 yards on 90 attempts, he could barely do that in 6 games in 2013 and 11 games in 2014. But this begs the question, is it just because this is his contract year he is performing so well?

If the Buc's are indeed asking that question they are focused on the wrong aspect of this offense. The offensive line has been pretty abysmal this season and players are suffering from it. Mike Evans, Jameis Winston, extensively the entire Buc's offense suffers when their O line is bad including Doug Martin.

Martin is probably the healthiest he has been in 2 seasons and now has learned to make plays in the space provided. Martin grinded his way to back to back 100 yard games over the past two weeks. If Martin indeed wants to be courted like a superstar running back in free agency he will just have to keep playing like one.
