The State of The NFC East Going Into Week 6: Injuries and Overview For Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Washington Redskins, New York Giants

Oct 16, 2015 09:00 AM EDT

Currently the NFC East is wide open and at this early point in the season it is surprising to hear so much talk of who will win the division.

There are 10 weeks of NFL football left in the regular season, so everyone needs to calm down. The Redskins, Eagles, Giants, and Cowboys all stand at an equal playing field to win a division title. The only thing concerning the Cowboys is how snake bitten they have been all season long, losing your top two team leaders and offensive weapons is a tough pill to swallow for any franchise.

The Eagles looked overly prepared in the offseason however that does not seem to be the case anymore. The Eagles have struggled even with most of their players healthy. They are very hard to predict and this makes them pretty dangerous. The Redskins have had their share of injury issues as well losing most of their tight ends for the season. Desean Jackson also has not played any meaningful snaps this season either so currently they just trying to discover who they are.

The Giants are looking like the strongest team in the east but they have already lost a game to the Cowboys. The NFC East is wide open and once again things should come down to the final few games of the season.

Washington Redskins: The Redskins are being counted out of this race because they have been historically terrible in recent memory, they also have benched their franchise quarterback for Kirk Cousins, who has become an interception machine. The Redskins are also 2-3 so if they can somehow beat the red hot New York Jets they will be sitting in first place as well. The Redskins have been without the services of Desean Jackson this season but have found two interesting offensive weapons in Jamison Crowder and Matt Jones. Cousins will have a tough time against Revis Island but if they manage to win they could be sitting at a nice advantage come week 7.

Philadelphia Eagles: The Eagles have been downright awful. With so much money put into retooling this team the way Chip Kelly envisioned the NFL world expected a lot more. The Dallas Cowboys and Demarco Murray are both looking kind of backwards for leaving each other. Murray has not looked remotely close to how he has looked behind the Cowboys line and his price tag makes that a tougher pill to swallow. The best back for Philadelphia has been Ryan Mathews who does not have to deal with the wear and tear that comes with being the lead back all of the time. Another player that has yet to pan out is Sam Bradford. Bradford has sacked 7 times, picked off 6 times and thrown 8 touchdowns so far this season. That is pretty decent if you consider some of the other quarterbacks in this league but his turnovers are costly in the sense that they wreck the game. The Eagles will lose over Bradford's turnovers but he will still string together an above average stat line. If the Eagles want to make a statement they must do it against the Giants on Monday Night Football.

New York Giants: The Giants have lost most of their secondary and yet still find a way to win games. The Giants two losses came from the Dallas Cowboys in week 1 and the Atlanta Falcons in week 2. The Giants are currently on a 3 game winning streak however their most impressive win came against a Bills team that had been banged up by injuries. The Giants also have more concerns on their injury front as Rueben Randle, Odell Beckham, and Victor Cruz are all dealing with some kind of injury. Cruz has not played a game all season long and it would be honestly shocking to see him suit up before week 10. The Giants will look to take hold of the NFC East in a showdown with the Eagles.

Dallas Cowboys: The Dallas Cowboys have had a bad string of luck in terms of injuries. The Cowboys lost Dez Bryant in the first game of the season along with Tony Romo soon after. Then when you think the cupboard couldn't get any barer, the Cowboys lose Lance Dunbar for the season, Randy Gregory to a high ankle sprain and Sean Lee to a concussion all in a 3 game span. Now as they lick their wounds on their bye week, the Cowboys will have to retool and figure out what works for them. This offensive line has not played like the best offensive line in football mostly due to Ronald Leary's poor play. Now with Christine Michael starting at running back, Matt Cassel starting at quarterback and their full arsenal of defensive weapons back the Cowboys will look to reclaim their spot at the top of the division against the Giants in week 7.
