The boogeyman of the NFL rears its ugly head yet again. In what seemed to be a funny highlight from week 5 NFL action, Jaguars running back Bernard Pierce blocked for the other team during a kickoff. To most people it seemed as if he had just made a mistake, albeit a very funny mistake. The end result however might not be so comical.

Pierce apparently had a concussion throughout that game. Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley stated that Pierce had concussion symptoms after the game and is now in the leagues concussion protocol.

The fact that a player was so concussed that he actually believed he was on the other team is more than terrifying to say the least. The NFL has taken steps to limit the amount of concussions on the field however injuries will still occur. Realistically the concussion problem is just one of many in a very physical and violent sport. Concussions can also vary in severity, Luke Kuechly just got cleared to practice a few days ago after spending two weeks in the NFL's concussion protocol however Sean Lee suffered one on Sunday and was on the practice field by Thursday.

The biggest injury in the NFL this year has been ACL and MCL injuries. The NFL forcing players to hit lower is having negative effects, and a wave of ACL and MCL tears is the result. Injuries are bad whenever they occur but there are no band aids for that type of issue.
