Green Bay Packers Rumors: Davante Adams Fantasy Football Sleeper For Aaron Rodgers, Randall Cobb, Sam Barrington Out For Season?

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams (17) pushes Chicago Bears cornerback Kyle Fuller (23) aside after a reception by Adams in the first half at Soldier Field in Chicago on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2015. The Packers won, 31-23. "

The Green Bay Packers won in Week 1 without wideout Jordy Nelson and moving forward, Davante Adams is a solid fantasy football sleeper option for quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Randall Cobb is the number one, but Adams has the chance to put up some strong numbers and this comes as the team has lost linebacker Sam Barrington for the season.

Rodgers had three touchdowns in Week 1 against the Bears and two of those went to James Jones, who is a prime fantasy pickup option for owners. The Packers signed Jones before the season started after he was cut by the Giants and following the injury to Jordy Nelson. The main concern for the Packers coming into the season was overcoming the injury to Nelson and for one week the team has been able to do that, getting a win against the Bears.

Cobb had a solid game after dealing with a shoulder injury late in the preseason, while Jones broke out with two TDs on four catches. Jones will be a solid WR2 or WR3 option moving forward for the Packers, as Rodgers and Jones have a good connection from numerous years playing together. Jones had 14 touchdowns back in 2012 and he is already off to a good start this season. Cobb was able to play all but six offensive snaps and put up five catches for 38 yards and a touchdown.

Adams had the chance to be a sleeper player for fantasy owners this season even before Nelson went down and now he will be stepping into the number two WR role. Even if Jones takes some snaps or targets from Adams, he is still expected to put up some solid numbers. Adams started up with four catches for 59 yards on eight targets against the Bears and he is coming in after making 38 catches for 446 yards last season. Adams has explosive ability and he had over 20 touchdowns in his final season at Fresno State.

For the time being, Ty Montgomery and Jeff Janis are not worth starting or picking up in fantasy, as those two players only played one snap each against the Bears. Montgomery is worth a flier because he also does kick returns and could slot in as a receiver down the line, but for now he is not worth an option in standard leagues. In deeper leagues Montgomery is worth a look.

The Packers defense took a hit this week, as Fox Sports reports that Sam Barrington could be out for the season. Alex Marvez reports that Barrington may have aggravated an ankle injury and depending on the severity, he could be out for the season. Barrington actually led the team in tackles during the playoffs last year and Pro Football Talk reports that Dom Capers sees him as the "quarterback of the defense" and if he misses time that would be a big loss.
