The Buffalo Bills continue to remain torn on their three-headed quarterback battle taking place in the preseason. All three quarterbacks have shown moments of strength and moments of real weakness causing a head ache for Rex Ryan and company. With quality offensive pieces in place to make the Bills contenders this year, the quarterback position will make or break that. As hype continues to grow around the future of Tyrod Taylor, is EJ Manuel guaranteed a release?
Manuel has the momentum after leading a game-winning drive against the Cleveland Browns, but that does not say much considering the score was 11-10. Taylor appears to have the long-term momentum which draws into question the future of the other players on the roster. According to NFL.com, the Bills could easily enter the season with three quarterbacks which means the release of Manuel might be saved for another season. The former first-round draft pick is aware his future is in major question, but admits he cannot do much about it.
"At the end of the day, if I play well, it should take care of itself," Manuel said, via ESPN.com. "Whether it's here or whether it's somewhere else, I don't know. I don't know how that works. But I also understand the business of it. I don't know. All I can do right now is continue to play well."
According to Bleacher Report, the Bills are torn on whether or not Taylor is the guy to go with. He appeared mistake free during the game against the Browns, but there is still a lot of unknown about the quarterback. Ryan is torn on whether this is just training camp success or true signs of a star quarterback in the making.
Regardless, whichever quarterback gets the nod, they will have a lot of weapons to work with. Sammy Watkins returned to the practice field which makes up for the injured Percy Harvin. Watkins, along with Robert Woods and Charles Clay will be key to any quarterback development taking place in Buffalo. The same can be said about the return of Fred Jackson. With LeSean McCoy and Karlos Williams dealing with injuries, getting Jackson back into the fold is critical for building the offense. The veteran will not be a starter once McCoy is back, but right now he will be a valuable weapon for any starting quarterback.
