Cleveland Browns Rumors and News: Why Johnny Manziel Has Already Won the QB Competition In Preseason With Josh McCown

Aug 21, 2015 02:30 PM EDT

The Browns are currently betting on Josh McCown to be there day one starter however with that come some expectations.

The expectations for the Browns to start the season were not good but the quarterback position was a cloudy mess. Now we have two quarterbacks Johnny Manziel and Josh McCown competing for the hearts of Cleveland natives.

In the 2nd preseason game Josh McCown got the start but had a regrettable showing to say the least. McCown went 7/10 from the field for 57 yards and 2 interceptions.

Those are not numbers a starter should put up in a preseason game or not. Johnny Manziel however went 10/18 for 118 yards and a touchdown which is probably the best he has ever played in a Cleveland jersey.

Manziel has looked pretty sharp all offseason and has being saying the "right things" that a professional quarterback would say. Not style but substance is what Manziel has been preaching so has this thought process paid off?

Let us revisit the first preseason game where Johnny Manziel went 7/11 for 42 yards and no interceptions or touchdowns. But on the other side of the coin Josh McCown went 5/5 for 33 yards and 1 touchdown. If Manziel somehow manages not to throw an interception during preseason the Browns should start him however if McCown can save himself and string together a couple of nice games this competition could be all but over.
