Washington Redskins News and Rumors: Robert Griffin III Suffers Concussion Against Lions In Preseason

Aug 21, 2015 02:20 PM EDT

In Thursday's preseason contest between The Washington Redskins and the Detroit Lions, Robert Griffin III was injured after being pummeled by the Lions defensive line.

Griffin was hit 6 times as he dropped back to pass, sacked 3 times, and fumbled twice, that is pretty bad for the Redskins offensive line. On the play that Griffin was injured he attempted to scramble out of the pocket but decided to dive forward headfirst on to the field.

While on the ground a Redskins offensive lineman and a Lions defensive end fell on top of Griffin's upper body including his head. Immediately after, Griffin was seen unconscious on the turf, until slowly moving his arms. Griffin was helped off the field by the Redskins medical staff. He was later diagnosed with a right shoulder stinger and a concussion. This was on a night that saw another important piece of the Redskins team go down with a major injury.

Linebacker, and special teams captain, Adam Heyward suffered a torn ACL when covering a kick return. He collided with a Lions special team player causing the tear to his ACL; he will miss the entire season.  Heyward was a key piece of the Redskins special teams now they will need to go on without him and presumably their starting quarterback.
