NFL Preseason 5 Things to Know Bills-Browns: Will Josh McCown Outplay Johnny Manziel? Who Wins Buffalo QB Job? Can Browns RBs Excel?

1. Can the Browns resolve their quarterback situation?

Josh McCown scored on his first preseason series with the Browns which is something else considering the Browns had trouble scoring all last season. McCown was 5/5, for 33 yards, and a touchdown which is pretty impressive for a guy who has been relegated to the backup quarterback role for quite some time. Johnny Manziel had an interesting time on the field as well finishing 7/11, for 42 yard, and he even scrambled into the end zone for a touchdown. Can someone finally slip up in this competition and give the Browns their actually starting quarterback?

2. The battle between Matt Cassel and Tyrod Taylor continues

Tyrod Taylor ended up finishing 5/8, with 6 rushes, for 49 yards, Matt Cassel finished 7/8 for 45 yards, and E.J. Manuel finished 4/8, for 77 yards, and a touchdown. Currently the starting job is between Taylor and Cassel but if Manuel continues to play well will he get a shot? Manuel also played the latest out of the three facing the bottom of the Panthers defensive depth chart. Can Taylor, Cassel, or Manuel separate themselves from the pack?

3. How will the Browns running backs perform?

With Duke Johnson back in action can the Browns establish a running game to help out whichever quarterback they plan on starting? Johnson was drafted to be the main guy running the football however injuries have kept him out of the competition to lead this RBBC (running back by committee). Terrance West had 4 carries for 10 yards and Isaiah Crowell had 4 carries for 6, there is no real competition in Johnson's way.

4. How will the Bill's defense perform?

Rex Ryan has always viewed himself as a defensive specialist so he obviously doesn't expect teams running up the score on the Bills this season. But can his defense show some depth and stop the Browns from scoring?

5. Can the Brown's defense play better?

The Browns need to generate more turnovers and have better coverage if they are to compete. The Browns struggled at times to cover and disrupt the Redskins offense which does not bode well for them in the long run. Justin Gilbert has been a gigantic disappointment and has really helped accentuate the problems in the secondary. Can someone step up on the front and back ends to make sure the Browns defense stays stout?
