Washington Redskins News and Rumors: Niles Paul Out After Injury In Preseason Game, Was Likely Starter For RG3

Aug 14, 2015 03:43 PM EDT

Washington Redskins starting tight end Niles Paul has been injured in his first preseason game.

Niles Paul suffered an ankle fracture dislocation which has effectively ended his season.  Paul was injured when Cleveland Brown's linebacker Craig Robertson tried to make a tackle but missed and accidently rolled onto Paul's ankle. This is a huge blow for the Redskins who now offensively have lost one of their biggest weapons and locker room leaders.

Paul was promoted to starting tight end at the beginning of the week and has only had a pretty productive and efficient camp so far. The Washington Redskins have been hammered by injury this offseason.

Logan Paulsen might also be in danger of missing the season with a toe injury and Jordan Reed has a nasty hamstring injury that has kept him out of action. The tight end position specifically has been brutalized these last few weeks and the Redskins are going to have a hard time replacing Paul's production.

Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden spoke about Paul briefly. Gruden stated

"He is one of our strongest players. He is self-made, when he talked about how Paul was a certain starter at tight end for his team. He works very hard in the weight room. He is very explosive. You can just see since I got here."
