Dallas Cowboys latest addition to the running game Gus Johnson has been injured in his first preseason game. Johnson who had a touchdown in the first half was injured in the third quarter and unable to finish the game. Johnson has apparently suffered a separated shoulder which could lead him being waived.

Johnson was the most promising running back on the roster in the Cowboys first preseason tilt. The only other back was Lache Seastrunk who did not impress anyone with his lack of vision and lack of ball handling skills.

It was clear that the coaching staff did not trust the undrafted free agent running back and after dropping a screen pass he was benched. The Cowboys do have Darren McFadden, Joseph Randle, and Lance Dunbar on their roster however they all were knocked out of the first preseason game due to injury.

If that trio cannot stay healthy then the Cowboys running back situation could become dire and they will absolutely need to seek help from an outside running back.

This will lead to a lot of speculation about free agent running backs but if the Cowboys are likely to do anything, it is going to come in the form of a trade. The Cowboys need a new running back and plenty of other teams have too many, the Cowboys will keep a close eye on guys like Knile Davis, Jerick McKinnon, Danny Woodhead, or Khiry Robinson.
