NFL News: Bobby Massie Suspended For Arizona Cardinals, Starting Lineman To Appeal?

Aug 11, 2015 03:45 PM EDT

Bobby Massie the Cardinals starting right tackle has been suspended by the NFL for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

Massie is appealing the suspension however he is most likely to be replaced by D.J. Humphries the Cardinals 1st round draft pick. Massie is seeking two games instead of three for being arrested. Massie was arrested for being intoxicated and asleep at the wheel during Super Bowl week in Arizona. It is unclear at this time if Humphries can fully take over for Massie and be an effective starter as the Cardinals saw him more as a backup until he was experienced enough to take over.

Massie was the 42nd ranked tackle in 2014 and gave up 7 sacks during the regular season. If Humphries is not ready to take on the starting job then Bradley Sowell could take over at right tackle. Any missed time by the Cardinals offensive linemen could spell doom for Carson Palmer who has been injury prone for the past few seasons.

An injured Carson Palmer was potentially the only thing stopping the Cardinals from actually making a deep run in the playoffs. Palmer has been proven as a necessity for this Cardinals team to succeed now they will get a chance to see if one of their long term investments in Humphries will pay off.
