NFL News: Tony McDaniel Signs With Tampa Bay Buccaneers After Seattle Seahawks Release

Aug 11, 2015 01:43 PM EDT

After being released by the Seattle Seahawks, defensive tackle Tony McDaniel has signed a 1 year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The deal is worth up to $2.5 million and is the base salary that McDaniel has while he was on the Seahawks. McDaniel was one of the hidden gems on Seattle's defensive line. He has never missed a game for the Seahawks and participated in 40.9% of Seattle's defensive snaps in 2014. He has had 84 tackles. 2 sacks, and a huge postseason safety.

McDaniel is a veteran run stopper with incredible toughness. He should help Gerald McCoy create and impenetrable defensive line that will give teams a hard time if they try to run the ball. In addition to McDaniel the Buccaneers added Henry Melton as well in the offseason giving them an imposing defensive line. Lovie Smith Buccaneers head coach is attempting to cover all of his bases by creating productive depth at each position particularly defensive tackle.

Akeem Spence has been injured for some time now and is rehabilitating after having back surgery in early July. McDaniel will become a solid piece for the Buccaneer's offense especially with Spence out until October.
